The Table Tennis Centre applies and encourages the principles of Positive
Youth Sports (S.C.O.R.E) to ALL players within its sphere of influence. Positive Youth Sports is an initiative of
Health Communities Partnership of Greater Franklin County, Inc. (Skills,
Character, Opportunity, Results, Enjoyment).
Jef also has Federal and State clearances to work within
the public school system, copies of which are available for inspection.
Mission
Jef's mission is to coach all levels of players to their full potential,
and to help provide a solid foundation in technique and attitude for players to aspire to the USA National Team and International
Championships, and have fun with everyone on the way.
He believes everyone deserves to reach their potential, and
is here to serve your needs, and make your table tennis experience one you will always remember.
Qualifications and Competence
Jef is a USATT Certified State Level Coach and is qualified to coach from
beginner up to a rating level of 1850. He is also a Certified Club Umpire and is studying to be a Referee.
He also holds Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Master of Business
Administration degrees.
He has played Table Tennis competitively since he was 21. He had a break
of eleven years to complete his adult studies, but returned to the sport determined to become a better player, and to become
a coach. He played in English Leagues for over 17 years, having won several League Divisional Championships and
won promotion to higher divisions. He played in London, High Wycombe, Ashford and Folkestone Leagues working up through
lower divisions to the Premier Division before leaving England.
Jef attended the English Table Tennis Association Club Coach Training Program
in 1998. Within months of arriving in the USA in 1999, he began preparation for certification as a USATT Club Coach, gaining
Certification in February, 2001, quickly followed by gaining State Level Coach Certification in October, 2001 and Club
Umpire in 2007. He has attended several Coach Training Seminars, at the US Olympic Training Center, Colorado Springs,
with Dan Seemiller, USA National Men’s Team Coach and has also attended Dan Seemiller's Camp and the Maryland TTC Camps
with Cheng Yinghua, Jack Huang and Larry Hodges three times, the latest Dec 2009.
Jef has an extensive table tennis library containing all the latest books (and
some not so latest) and DVD/videos on table tennis, coaching and coaching table tennis. He has 5 tables, a Stiga Elite,
Stiga 375 & 275 and 2 Butterfly Club, a Newgy practice robot, Newgy catch ball net, professional video camera, playback
equipment for instructional videos and video feedback to players.
During the summer of 2007 he ran a month long private training camp for 4
junior players in Harrisburg. He has coached junior beginners, & adults at Carlisle TTC, Hagerstown Community College,
and juniors at Be A Star Club, bringing sporting and cultural activities to underprivileged children in Easton, MD.
